An Android app that reads UPI payment notifications and keeps a Hindi-first expense ledger on the phone, with no manual entry and no data leaving the device.
Indians pay for almost everything through GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and their bank app. Every payment fires a notification, and then it is gone. The record of where the money went is scattered across five apps and a bank SMS inbox, written in technical bank language that nobody reads.
So people either stop tracking spending, or they re-type every transaction into an expense app by hand. Existing expense apps expect ordinary people to behave like accountants: pick a category, enter an amount, tag a merchant, every single time.
This hits anyone in India who pays by UPI and wants to know where their month went. Students on an allowance, salaried people on a budget, and small shop owners feel it most, because for them the gap between what they think they spent and what they actually spent is the whole problem.
Hisaab (हिसाब) is an Android app that turns UPI payment notifications into a Hindi expense ledger, with no manual entry.
Core functionality:
It solves the problem by removing the entry step entirely. The payment already generated a notification; Hisaab reads it and does the accounting. Everything is parsed and stored on the device. No transaction data leaves the phone, and the app needs no account and no login.
