The problem

A student can finish a recorded lecture, get a question wrong, and still not know which part to revisit. Finding the explanation can mean searching a long transcript or repeatedly moving backward through the video. Notes and practice questions are often separate from the lesson, leaving students to connect everything themselves.

WatchRead is built for students revising recorded classes and people learning through online lessons. We focus on the moment after a misunderstanding: What did I get wrong? Where was it explained? Can I answer a different question after reviewing it?

AI-generated notes also create a trust problem. Students need an easy way to check an explanation against the original source. WatchRead brings the explanation, its source, and the next practice question into one place.

How it works

WatchRead turns a lecture transcript into a readable study companion with chapters, a glossary, and practice questions. Explanations link back to source passages. When a matching video and timestamped transcript are available, clicking a source time jumps to that part of the recording.

Its main feature is what happens after a wrong answer. WatchRead explains the specific mix-up, lets the student revisit the relevant passage, and offers a different question about the same idea. It saves the first answer, source visit, and follow-up answer on the student's device.

For example, our photosynthesis lesson helps a student who thinks most of a tree's dry mass comes from soil revisit the role of carbon dioxide, then try a new question.

Fable 5.1 composed the prepared companions, including explanations, glossary entries, questions, and feedback. A separate Fable 5.1 pass reviewed the material against the transcript. The app also checks source references in code and marks old content for review when the transcript changes. The public repository includes recorded model runs and browser tests.

The live demo contains two prepared lessons with working reading, source playback, practice, saving, and export flows. Fresh AI generation currently runs in the local laptop version; exported projects can be restored on the public site.

Our goal is to help students work through misunderstandings with evidence they can inspect. Learning gains have not yet been measured with students.
