Visarjan-Ghat-Watch

From Claude Impact Lab, Bhopal, 11 October 2026.

Ranks seven Bhopal ghats against CPCB criteria with plain-language reasons, links each finding to its report page and writes Hindi and English briefings.

The problem

Bhopal's water-quality data for idol-immersion ghats is buried in lengthy MPPCB reports, making it difficult for municipal officers to identify which ghats need attention before Durga Visarjan. Historical readings from 2023–2025 show concerning dissolved oxygen and BOD levels, but officers lack a simple way to compare results with CPCB limits, track changes across years, and verify the evidence behind each finding. Our goal is to turn this scattered data into a clear, evidence-backed risk ranking that supports timely and informed decisions.

How it works

Visarjan Ghat Watch is a water-quality risk prioritization tool designed to help Bhopal Municipal Corporation officers prepare for idol immersion. It analyzes historical data from seven Bhopal ghats, compares water-quality readings against CPCB criteria, and produces a ranked list of locations with plain-language explanations for each ranking. Every finding is linked to the relevant reading and original report page for verification. The tool also highlights missing samples, distinguishes BDL readings from missing data, compares historical trends, and generates concise Hindi and English briefings that officers can forward to relevant teams. It supports decisions about additional testing, cleaning, and other appropriate measures without making unsupported health claims.

How Claude was used

I used Claude and Claude Code to understand the problem requirements, plan the application workflow, develop the data-processing and risk-prioritization logic, and build the user interface. They assisted with implementing CPCB limit comparisons, handling missing-data cases, displaying evidence from source reports, and preparing concise Hindi and English officer briefings. The focus was on building a transparent, practical tool in which each risk ranking can be explained and verified using the supplied public data.
