Turns MPPCB water-quality reports into structured data and ranks Bhopal’s seven immersion ghats on CPCB Class B risk triggers, with bilingual field briefs.

The problem

We are solving the data-accessibility and structural analysis bottleneck for the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) during mass festive events like Durga Visarjan. Raw water-quality reports from the MPPCB span across hundreds of pages of complex, uncompiled data over multiple years (2023-2025). Non-technical officers cannot easily trace toxic parameter deviations or identify critical waterbodies before religious timelines begin. Our tool prevents the accidental clean-washing of critical anomalies (like sensor faults or extreme stagnant states masked by typical zero-bounds values) and directly maps the environmental degradation footprint across Bhopal's 7 primary immersion ghats.

How it works

Our solution is a full-stack automated parsing engine and an interactive decision-support analytics dashboard built specifically for municipal authorities. It automatically converts historical tabular metrics into clean, structured operational states while rigorously applying parsing sanity algorithms (handling missing records, BDL tracking, and dropping physically impossible parameters like BDL markers on stable configuration elements like pH or DO). The dynamic user portal classifies and stacks the 7 target Bhopal ghats based on strict CPCB Class B environmental risk triggers, highlighting critical degradation markers, and provides a direct CSV data-export interface alongside concise bilingual (English/Hindi) forwardable field briefs.

How Claude was used

We used Claude to accelerate the development lifecycle under an urgent 1-day timeline. Claude acted as a highly adaptive developer and domain expert—interpreting raw MPPCB data, establishing systematic parsing rules for complex metrics (like BDL handling), and generating the baseline python code ('ghat_watch.py'). It also helped us architect the final interactive Streamlit dashboard web-app solution from scratch, write bilingual executive summaries for BMC officers, and systematically structure our codebase and documentation to match Track 2 judging criteria perfectly.
